Description:
The Mottman Building is located in the Pioneer Square Historic District, only a few blocks from the Chinatown-International District. The five-story office building features a unique combination of flexible floor plans, historic finishes, and modern upgrades. Four levels of office space feature exposed brick walls, refinished hardwood floors, high ceilings with heavy timber beams, an HVAC system, a passenger elevator and operable windows on three sides.
Constructed in 1906, the Mottman Building was designed by architects Charles Saunders and George Lawton in the Beaux Arts Neoclassical style. It was originally called the Norris Safe Building, after its first tenant, the Norris Safe Company. In 1928-29, when Second Avenue was extended southeast from Yesler Way to Jackson Street, the northeast corner of the Mottman Building's Third Avenue façade had to be "shaved off" and rebuilt at an angle to account for the new curve in the street. In 2001, the building underwent a complete renovation, including seismic retrofitting.
The Mottman Building is located within a transportation hub with access to all major public transit systems. Directly across from King Street Station, it is within easy walking distance of the Sounder commuter trains, the International District Link light rail station and the Seattle Streetcar to First Hill. A King County Metro/Sound Transit bus stop stands just outside the building's entrance. The building is also in close proximity to major highways, I-5 and I-90, Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park and the numerous shops, restaurants and art galleries in Pioneer Square.
